Acupuncture is a gentle and effective way of healing the body naturally. It is based on the theory that a vital energy nourishes the entire body through a network of channels. Acupuncture regulates the flow in these channels allowing the body to heal itself.

Acupuncturist’s Bio

Karen Donoughe’s career in acupuncture arose from her passion for problem-solving.  “In every patient, I see an opportunity to make a difference in that person’s life.  Many people come to acupuncture after trying every other medical modality.  In acupuncture, there are so many ways to solve a person’s illness.  As a practitioner, it is incredibly rewarding to take a patient out of pain, help them sleep better, and engage in daily activities that they thought might never be possible again.”

Karen received her undergraduate degree and Masters of Science from Susquehanna University, The Traditional Acupuncture Institute and The Maryland University of Integrative Health.  She is a National Board Certified Diplomat in Acupuncture and is a Licensed Acupuncturist by the Board of Osteopathic Medicine in the State of Pennsylvania.  She has worked with patients to resolve back and neck pain, sports injuries, neuropathy, digestive issues and many other ailments. She worked at recovery clinics in inner city Baltimore administering acupuncture for PTSD and addiction detox, as well as helping patients manage the effects of cancer treatment in the Living Well with Cancer program.  Her wellness training extends beyond acupuncture into nutrition and exercise therapy.  She combines this knowledge with acupuncture when working with patients to achieve a healthy lifestyle and lose excess weight.

“I became an acupuncturist because it allows me to help people by working with them on an individual basis; as real people with complex issues.  With this understanding, I am able to address their needs through safe and effective treatment.  Acupuncture is distinctive in that it views the body, mind and spirit of a person as aspects of an integrated whole.  I absolutely love what I do and I am thrilled that I’m able to help my patients achieve health, relaxation, and a better quality of life.”

Karen practices Classic Chinese Acupuncture also known as Five Element Acupuncture. It is heralded as the most ancient, nuanced form of acupuncture and, as pleases many patients… the most painless.
